Every night the news reports on all the bad things people do and say. Personally, I find it depressing and it makes me wonder where all the good guys have gone. I know they're out there wandering the streets like superman or superwoman. They may not wear a cape or leap tall buildings but the work they do is more important. Here's one I'm featuring this month.
Home Fur Good
"Home ‘Fur’ Good is a 501(c)3 no-kill animal rescue organization whose mission is to eliminate the euthanasia of adoptable homeless cats and dogs in Maricopa County by providing quality medical care and adoption placements, as well as promoting spay/neuter procedures and providing outreach education for pet owners."
This organization specializes in cat and dog adoptions and care. As with most charitable organizations, they need volunteers to help with any number of tasks. You can foster a cat or dog, help with adoptions, fundraising activities, care and transport or even office help. The number of hours you commit to is up to you but I can guarantee it is time well spent.
Many of my friends find it difficult to visit any shelter type organization but my own experience has shown me that giving of your time to animals is as rewarding for them as you. As little as an hour spent walking a dog to let him feel the breeze and enjoy playtime can make a huge difference in his daily life. Cat cuddling is not only fun and provides physical stimulation but it's a fantastic way to forgot your own troubles.
If you can't volunteer, please consider donating - whether you have old blankets or towels or can provide financial assistance - it's all needed.
