Is this the life, or what?  My little Chance, who runs the household, takes every opportunity to kick back in the sunshine.

Ballooning over the desert

Hot air balloons floating in the warm breezes over the Phoenix desert.  Definitely a fun activity especially when you land to a Champagne breakfast.

Writing personal experiences

Last week I experienced the great sadness of losing my younger sister who had fought an amazing battle with cancer.  It started as breast cancer and then moved to her brain and she battled the disease for twenty years.  I will miss her every day even though I know she is finally at peace and I feel blessed to have had her in my life for so many years.  She left behind her husband of thirty years and her lovely daughter.  I want to try to find a way to honor her memory but to also take those feelings and pour them into my writing.  I hope that not only can I do work to support the eradication of breast cancer, so that another person doesn't have to fight this battle, but that my writing can provide an outlet to bring my characters to life for my readers. Each time I sit at the pc I vow to pour more of myself into my characters so that you will feel their pain as well as their joy. Leslie

A prayer for the animals

My mind must be on animals lately because I must post this poem which moved me.  Poetry is not a genre in which I feel competent so I envy those who are.   I hope you enjoy this. Leslie     A Prayer for the Animals Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals, and so to share the blessings of the merciful.                    Albert Schweitzer

To rescue an animal may just be the greatest gift

I found this story from a Facebook posting about a rescue group in AZ that needed volunteers.  I hope it moves you as much as it did me. It's not related in any way to the act of writing but it is a well told story. =============================== Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All the recent arrivals were confused and concerned. They had no idea what to think for they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had spent some time waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was happening and began to gather at the pathway le ading to the Bridge to watch. They knew this was something special. It wasn't too long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung heavy and low with tail dragging along the ground. The other animals on the pathway...the ones who had been at RainBow Bridge for a while...knew the story of this sad creature immediately. They had se
