Payson Book Festival

The first ever Payson Book Festival was a huge success for everyone. Held in the cooler than Phoenix temperatures surrounded b y beautiful Pinon pines the event was well attended by authors and readers from all over Arizona.

I was very happy to participate with other authors from the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers. Sales of Menu for Murder were strong with one reader purchasing a copy for herself and her friend. These lucky readers now have autographed copies as signed with my left hand! I hope that makes them even more valuable in the future,

I haven't loved a book this much in longer than I can remember. I read every genre, except horror and nothing has kept me a prisoner of the page like Gail Honeyman's beautiful story of a woman lost in a world of regret, shame and abuse. This description sounds like the book is depressing but it's the opposite. The evolution of the character is heartwarming and you'll only be sad when the book is done. I don't want to give away the story so this review will be intentionally vague.  When you first meet Eleanor your impression is one of a completely different person than the one who emerges as the story unfolds. Eleanor works in an office, the same job she's held for a long time but despite that she has no friends. Her co-workers snicker about her, she believes her boss hired her because he felt sorry for her and she has scars - some visible and others not.  She lives by a strict set of self-imposed rules and to vary them causes her great stress. Book Review - The Cavanaugh House by Elizabeth Meyette

This is the first book of two in the series. This is basically a light mystery with a paranormal element and a bit of romance. Set in 1968, Jesse Graham has ended her engagement because her fiancé, a somewhat famous musician, has been cheating on her. Luckily she has inherited her aunt's house where she can live while she decides on her future. In the process of renovations, she meets her hunky neighbor, sees her aunt's ghost and figures out an old murder. I admit to forgetting most of what I learned about Catholicism as a child, however there were parts of this book which didn't ring true for me in Jesse's relationship with her friend. Maggie, the nun. I questioned the language Jesse uses with her friend. Even though they grew up together I would expect her to have more respect for her friend's religion. Jesse routinely curses and they drink beer as if it were water. Wickenburg Literary Festival

The Wickenburg Literary Festival was held on April 1st through 3rd. I was excited to participate in this event and have the opportunity to meet with more readers. The Voices of the West, included authors, storytelling, food and the opportunity to design your own book cover. For me it was a great opportunity to meet fans and new readers. As Cocktails at Sunset nears completion, I'm even more thrilled to spend a beautiful Arizona day outside enjoying comments from my readers.
