All About Halo Animal Rescue by L. A. Keller

Magic and Chance - my current two rescues.  Magic was abandoned in my neighborhood and it took six weeks before I could approach him.  Chance came to us from Halo as a kitten to provide companionship to Magic.  They don't always get along this well as Chance is a bit of a brat.

As an animal rescue advocate I couldn't consider purchasing a pet. There are so many abandoned animals waiting and hoping someone will come along and love them. It shatters my faith in mankind to see the condition some are in when arriving at the shelters. Despite that the generosity and devotion by volunteers renews my belief that so some people will give selflessly of their time and money to correct the wrongs.

Lately I've not had the time I wish I could devote to Halo Animal Rescue but I hope the information I'm providing will motivate to you become a contributor - in any fashion. Even a few dollars goes a long way to provide the food and care these wonderful cats and dogs deserve.

Halo stands for Helping Animals Live On and last year they helped save more than 5,400 pets and find them loving homes. Started in 1994 by two women, Michel Herstam and Heather Allen, their mission statement is "Helping Animals Live On through increased adoption, sterilization and pet care education."

For years Halo was headquartered beside the Maricopa County Animal Shelter in Phoenix but moved in 2017 to Central Phoenix on 32nd Avenue and Bell Road.  The new facility has 45 indoor dog runs, 4 indoor play yards, a puppy nursery, grooming area and a cat area which can house over 25 cats. Halo has partnered with Petsmart Charities to help place animals with new families.

Halo is always happy to have new volunteers and they provide a training program, t-shirt and identification badge.  Volunteers are needed for everything from dog walkers, kitty cuddlers to laundry help. If your time is limited you can donate animal toys, beds, blankets and towels as well as financial support. You can also foster a pet in your home until he or she finds a forever placement.

Once you have received your training it's as easy as going online to select which shifts you are available to work and in which location.

Happy Trails,

Leslie
