Gringo Swizzle fo Cinco de Mayo

Here's a fun drink you can prepare for Cinco de Mayo with a Tequila base.

Gringo Swizzle

2 oz tequila - silver or gold
1/2 oz crème de cassis
1 oz lime juice - or the juice of 1/2 lime
1 oz orange juice
1 oz pineapple juice
1 teas fine sugar
Ginger ale, chilled

Combine all ingredients, except ginger ale in a shake half filled with ice.
Shake well. 
Strain into a collins glass or highball glass. 
Fill with ginger ale. 
Garnish with pineapple or orange slice.
Enjoy!

This book moves away from my regular cozy mystery into historical women's fiction. It's the first book I've read by this author. The Valley is the first book in a trilogy set in colonial times Virginia. The setting grabbed my attention since that is the state I grew up in and love dearly. Book Review - The Guilty Wife by Elle Croft by L. A. Keller

This book caught my eye because I was looking for a good mystery thriller and the title on Amazon displays as "The Guilty Wife: A thrilling psychological suspense with twists and turns that grip you to the very last page." Very clever marketing and the book itself was good.  It did have some twists but the end was predictable. I didn't like that it started with a prologue. It's a cheater's way of grabbing your attention by throwing out some juicy details. In this case, the few paragraphs of prologue put the reader in media res also known as the middle of the story. Facts that the protagonist would not have known at the beginning. Bethany is a photographer having an affair with a very wealthy client. Calum. She claims to love her husband, Jason but she also loves Calum.  She states, "I was in love with my husband. Always had been, really." I absolutely love Halloween.  What is more fun than to dress up and eat pillow cases full of candy?  I love giving candy to all the kids who ring my door bell and love eating all the leftover candy too.  This year I have promised myself not to consume two large bags of Halloween candy before I give any away.  Instead, I'll be sampling a few cocktail recipes. Devil's Tail 1 1/2 oz Light Rum 1 oz Vodka 2 teaspoons Apricot Brandy - if you don't want to buy an entire bottle just for this tiny amount, try to obtain the one shot size or use an Apricot flavoring. 2 teaspoons Grenandine 1/2 oz Lime Juice - preferably fresh squeezed If you want to make this creamier, use sorbet. Combine ingredients in a blender with ice. Blend thoroughly Pour into a Champagne flute.
