Water in the Sonoran desert

It may be surprising to learn that Arizona has a large number of man-made lakes which are not only perfect for boating and swimming but great for doing nothing but catching your breath in between hectic days.  This is a picture of Lake Pleasant during one of my outings there.

If you ever come to Phoenix you can rent a motorized boat or do as I have and take a kayak out. It's peaceful and the water is clear and clean. I guarantee you will enjoy some of the Sonoran desert's most beautiful scenery.

This book moves away from my regular cozy mystery into historical women's fiction. It's the first book I've read by this author. The Valley is the first book in a trilogy set in colonial times Virginia. The setting grabbed my attention since that is the state I grew up in and love dearly. I absolutely love Halloween.  What is more fun than to dress up and eat pillow cases full of candy?  I love giving candy to all the kids who ring my door bell and love eating all the leftover candy too.  This year I have promised myself not to consume two large bags of Halloween candy before I give any away.  Instead, I'll be sampling a few cocktail recipes. Devil's Tail 1 1/2 oz Light Rum 1 oz Vodka 2 teaspoons Apricot Brandy - if you don't want to buy an entire bottle just for this tiny amount, try to obtain the one shot size or use an Apricot flavoring. 2 teaspoons Grenandine 1/2 oz Lime Juice - preferably fresh squeezed If you want to make this creamier, use sorbet. Combine ingredients in a blender with ice. Blend thoroughly Pour into a Champagne flute. Jayne's Restaurant Review - Sorso Wine Room

You know that I do like to have a sip or two of wine, every now and then, so when my friend invited me to try this wine restaurant in the Scottsdale Quarter, I was more than a little excited. Now keep in mind that the last time I was at the Scottsdale Quarter something really bad happened. If you don't know what I mean, then you'll have to read Menu for Murder to find out. Sorso has a wine vending machine concept - yes I am serious. You decide how much you want to spend and then simply put your card in the slot and bunch a button to sample from around thirty wines. You have a choice of a sip, a taste or a pour. I really wanted the Silver Oak, but it was a bit out of this server's budget. Since they also had great happy hour prices, I opted for the $5 glass of wine. They also have a great wine pairing menu which includes cheese and meat plates to share, delicious bruschetta, salads and sandwiches. Our food was very good and inventive.
