Writing Support

I just joined yet another writing group, well actually make that a new group and two sub-groups.  You may wonder why, when I already barely have time to catch my breath, that I decided to commit myself to something else.  The answer is simple - I get so much more than the time I invest. Every time I attend a meeting or read the publications from these associations I find my almost dead batteries are re-charged.  My inspiration (some like to call it their muse) returns.  My motivation to sit back down at the keyboard and bang away is back and I remember why I'm doing this at all.  I love books and even more than reading books I love to write. As hard as the task seems to be at the end of a long day, or an even longer week, putting my thoughts on paper is exhilarating.  The possibility of seeing my work in print or even in an e-book format is thrilling.  So despite feeling that I have absolutely nothing to contribute, nothing to say (which is shockin...

Book Review - The Valley (The Valley Trilogy #1) by Helen Bryan

This book moves away from my regular cozy mystery into historical women's fiction. It's the first book I've read by this author. The Valley is the first book in a trilogy set in colonial times Virginia. The setting grabbed my attention since that is the state I grew up in and love dearly. This review does have some spoilers and the book has a large cast so take notes. Sophia Grafton is a wealthy and spoiled child with homes in London and the countryside. She is raised by her adoring father who lavishes everything on her and allows her to run wild. As she reaches the marriageable age of sixteen it becomes apparent she needs a firmer hand. After no prospect is agreed upon by Sophia and her father, he moves her to their country home while he recovers from illness, in the hope that a local lad will catch her eye. Despite a marriage proposal Sophia remains single until her father's death. She soon finds she is penniless with no option but to travel to the new world and...

This month's edition of crazy criminals continues to confound me.  These are some Arizona criminals as reported in the New Times or other journals, as noted. Let’s start with the momma’s boy. The shame and embarrassment of being broke, 35-years-old, and living with his mother drove Jason Draper to allegedly steal over $45,000 worth of merchandise from Walmart stores over the course of several months. At least, that's what Draper told police. ********** If there's any benefits to getting robbed by friends, it would be that you likely know several different ways to get in contact with them. One woman used Facebook to help police track down and arrest her former friend Brandi Rogers, after Rogers allegedly helped orchestrate a gun-point robbery of her home. Rogers and the woman were Facebook friends, and a status update posted a few days after the robbery allowed the woman to tell the police where Rogers would be eating one particular evening, and police arrested her t...
