Book Review - Buck Me Cowboy - A Secret Baby Romance by Cassandra Dee reviewed by L.A. Keller

This was, and was not, what I expected it to be. First, based on the title I should have known that anything called Buck Me Cowboy wouldn't be a sweet romance but also seeing the word "Romance" in the title I expected more romance, less bucking. A warning to anyone who isn't looking for erotica this book is very graphic. This review will contain some spoilers so stop here if you don't want to know the basic plot.

We meet the main character, Maisie who is alone and trying to keep her family ranch from going into foreclosure. She has to tackle every chore on the ranch but the reader is never sure just what that means.  Most working ranches would have livestock (cows and horses) a means of feeding them such as making hay and would require a team of more than one. In this case she is running a 500 hundred acre ranch that used to be a corn farm. Having grown up with chickens, horses, and cows I can tell you that even on a small scale one person couldn't even being to manage the daily tasks. Perhaps that should make it more believable that Maisie is failing. The story is set in current times and yet, Maisie uses a stool to milk her one cow. Again, perhaps the author should have researched this but cows don't give milk unless they have calved. Did she sell the calf?  Okay, enough of me being picky about the very minor aspect of the story because it's really not about her family farm at all.

In chapter two the hero, Tyler is introduced - bleeding in her barn. Instead of calling for help, Maisie decides to give the unconscious man oral sex. I should add here that Maisie is a virgin and has never even seen a man naked prior to the moment when she's trying to help him. From this point on the story spirals into a the various places and ways the two have sex, sex and more sex.

Towards the end of the book is where the romance is inserted (pun intended). Tyler and Maisie fall in love, even though he's been keeping a secret as to who he really is (clue the sad music and yes it's the evil, rich neighbors who want to steal the farm and Tyler is one of the brothers). Then there's the sudden marriage and the truth comes out.  Maisie runs away (from her own home) and gets a job as a maid in another town. Eventually she decides she must go home and check on the farm, because of course, she's going to have Tyler's baby. What about the poor cow? Okay, I admit I get sidetracked about the farm but the story is so bad I have to focus on something.

The story ends abruptly after her return. This might be a ploy by the author to have you read another installment of their story.  For me, this was a one night stand that I can forget. There was a lot of sex which wouldn't have bothered me as much as the poor writing. Even erotica needs to be written well and I cannot state that this book had that key element. Interestingly to me, this book received more than seventy-percent five star reviews on Amazon. I'll wait for the next rodeo to come to town rather than read anymore of this author's work.

Happy Trails,

Leslie
